Young filmmakers from Manatee County are receiving honors from FAME, which stands for Florida Media in Education. The FAME Jim Harbin Student Media Festival was created in honor of Jim Harbin, a former consultant with the Florida Department of Education, who originated the idea of recognizing the excellent work of student media producers from Kindergarten through 12th grade.
The following TEN films are finalists in the 2020-2021 Jim Harbin Student Media Festival:
ELEMENTARY DIVISION -
Drama: The Detective, Rowlett Academy for Arts & Communication
Comedy: Super Fork, Rowlett Academy for Arts & Communication
Animation: Treasure Hunters, Rowlett Academy for Arts & Communication
Animation: The Lunch Box, Rowlett Academy for Arts & Communication
MIDDLE SCHOOL DIVISION -
Comedy: Masked Killer 2, Nolan Middle School
Documentary: BTSN, Nolan Middle School
PSA: Why Vape?, Lee Middle School
Animation: To Get to the Other Side, Rowlett Middle Academy
Drama: Drift, Nolan Middle School
News Feature: Doctor COVID, Lee Middle School
These films received first place in the local competition and received honors during the regional competition, in order to qualify for the state competition. The awards ceremony will take place at the FAME Annual Conference on December 3, 2021 in Daytona Beach.
