The WOZ Ed S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) Team at Palm View K-8 in Palmetto is working hard to ensure their students have a bright future ahead. Teacher Tarrah Keefe says her students are currently working on the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Pathway.
Kindergarten through second grade engineers are using Botzee to learn about programming and coding. They can program the robot to move, drum, dance, make sounds and light up. Students in third through fifth grades are using Augie the Robot to learn coding language and further enhance their critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Ms. Keefe tells us that careers in the Artificial Intelligence industry are expected to increase by 2.3 million by the year 2030. According to CNBC, the most in-demand AI careers pay at least $95,000 per year and include: data scientists, software and data engineers, along with software developers.
In 2019, Palm View K-8 became the first Woz Ed Pathway school in the nation. Students are learning about cybersecurity, drone maintenance, engineering design, coding and mobile development. Woz Ed is an educational program started by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak to help students explore their future in the tech economy.
