Jemmo Joseph got called out of class this week for a surprise that may change his life forever. The Manatee High School senior was shocked to see his mom, sister and niece standing their next to a team from Take Stock in Children Manatee.
Take Stock in Children Manatee CEO Anne LeBaron and her team presented Jemmo with a big announcement, along with an Apple laptop computer.
Jemmo is one of 12 Take Stock scholars in Florida who are finalists for a "full ride" to college. Six of these teens will be named Leader for LifeTM Fellows and receive full tuition, as well as room and board, books and supplies, meals and more.
The mission of the Leaders for Life fellowship program is to enable highly motivated Take Stock in Children scholars who have demonstrated strong leadership skills, moral character, and academic success, to excel in a university environment by providing the tools and resources necessary to empower them to develop to their fullest potential.
Jemmo will find out if he was chosen for the fellowship program in January. We wish him all the best!
Take Stock in Children was established in 1995 as a non-profit organization in Florida that provides a unique opportunity for deserving, low-income youth to escape the cycle of poverty through education. Scholars receive one-on-one support through caring volunteer mentors, professional college success services and the opportunity to earn a college scholarship.
