“First daffodils of the season,” Larry Benton, teacher at Lee Middle School emailed to Principal Kimone Cooper this week. “Very proud.”
They are the first blooms of nearly 100 daffodils planted by Mr. Benton’s IND class in mid-November.
Lee Middle School students have planted 300+ daffodils at the school, so far.
It’s part of the Worldwide Daffodil Project, in memory of the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust.
The yellow flowers are also planted in honor of children suffering in humanitarian crises around the world today.
Thousands of daffodils have sprouted up across Manatee County since 2021.
Other schools participating include Braden River Middle, Buffalo Creek Middle, Lakewood Ranch High, Parrish Community High, Rogers Garden-Bullock Elementary, Samoset Elementary and Southeast High.
