Two Manatee County high school seniors received Service Academy Nominations from a United States Congressman.
Rep. Vern Buchanan (District-16) nominated Palmetto High student Arianna Longo to four academies and Braden River High student Brett Brustad to two academies.
The five United States Service Academies include:
U.S. Military Academy at West Point (New York)
U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis (Maryland)
U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs (Colorado)
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point (New York)
U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London (Connecticut)
Candidates who meet eligibility requirements and receive a nomination are placed among a group of nominees.
The service academies make a final admission decision based on the students' academic and extra-curricular record, leadership skills, physical stamina and more.
We're proud to announce that Arianna Longo is attending the U.S. Naval Academy this fall.
According to Principal Monica DeLesline, Arianna has already earned $185K in scholarships by working hard as a student athlete, school ambassador and AICE Diploma recipient.
LTC Jay Bradin (Ret.) is the Senior Army Instructor at Braden River High School. He says Brett Brustad is waiting for an appointment from the Academy and should find out by mid-March.
The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
Best wishes to our seniors who are pursuing their goals of serving our country!
