Project Empower Develop Grow Educate (EDGE) is a beacon of hope for students with intellectual disabilities. This post-secondary non-degree-seeking transitional program is designed to provide these students with an unparalleled opportunity to thrive.
The inaugural class of Project EDGE graduated from Manatee Technical College on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
Through hands-on learning and industry certifications, Project EDGE opens doors to a world of possibilities. Students can immerse themselves in the exciting fields of Advanced Manufacturing and Production Technology, Advanced Automotive Service Technology, Baking and Pastry Arts, Professional Culinary Arts & Hospitality, and Electrical Assistance.
By connecting students to technical college life, industry certifications, and employment opportunities, Project EDGE cultivates a sense of achievement and confidence. It is not just about learning; it's about growing, developing, and empowering one's potential.
Through Project EDGE, students find themselves in a supportive environment where they can explore their interests and talents. The program's focus on hands-on learning ensures that every student is engaged and invested in their future. Each certification earned is a step closer to a fulfilling career, reinforcing the belief that every individual has the potential to succeed.
As graduates transition to employment, they carry with them the skills, certifications, and confidence gained through Project EDGE, ready to make their mark on the world.
The essence of the program was eloquently captured at graduation by Digital Video Technology graduate, Sophia Swim. "Passion does not mean it is going to be easy," she remarked, "It means it is going to be worth it."
The next application period opens in Spring 2026. For more information about Project EDGE, please visit https://www.manateetech.edu/programs/project-edge/.
