On Friday, we were proud to SURPRISE and announce the second-ever recipient of the School District of Manatee County's Good News Award of Excellence — Olympia Baylou from Palm View K - 8 School!
This award was created to recognize staff members who consistently shine a light on the positive, everyday moments happening in our schools and worksites and Mrs. Baylou embodies that mission in every way.
For years, Olympia has been a champion of sharing Good News and student success from her classroom. From hands-on science experiments like exploring the density of liquids, to opening students’ eyes to future careers during a field trip to the Florida Institute of Oceanography, she has shared approximately five Good News stories since August alone, while also inspiring colleagues through innovative lessons.
The Good News Award of Excellence (pictured) also highlights the incredible talent of our District students. This trophy was designed and created by McNeal Elementary School students, including May (pictured), under the guidance of their technology teacher, Vic Kolomiychenko.
Mrs. Baylou and Mr. Kolomiychenko each received a $100 Amazon gift card, made possible by our partners at the Manatee Education Foundation.
