For some, it is a date in history.

For those who served in New York City, it is a memory that never truly left.

They answered the call when their city needed them most.

They ran toward danger.

They secured their communities at a moment’s notice.

They searched for debris in the aftermath of a horrific attack.

They carried the weight of that day with them for the years that followed.

Today we are sharing their stories:

They are only a small percentage of the School Safety Guardians in Manatee County.

There are dozens more from New York, New Jersey, and other areas in the Northeast.

Twenty-five years after September 11, their service continues.

The badge may be retired.

The years on the job may be behind them.

But the commitment remains.

Their mission has evolved,

but their purpose has not.

They continue to guide.

They continue to watch.

They continue to serve.

And every morning, when they walk into a school filled with children, educators, and staff, they bring with them a lifetime of courage, sacrifice, and experience.
