PCHS Bulletin – Madison Davenport and Haven Wood

The 25-26 Volleyball season has officially started. They are coming back better than ever!

The team has three captains this season: Mia Davis (Sr.), Alysa Jones (Jr.), and Khyler Reed (Jr.). There are two seniors on the varsity team: Mia Davis and Madeleine Winslow.

New this year is an official freshman team. Coach Danielle Stevenson said the freshman team was added for developmental purposes.

“It gives the athletes more of an opportunity to grow their skills,” Stevenson said.

The team rosters can be found on the Parrish Bulls Volleyball and Parrish Athletics Instagram pages, and the PCHS Boosters website.

The preseason game was Tuesday, Aug. 12, with only Varsity playing. The game ended in a loss, but it was a tough fight for the Varsity girls. This game was a learning experience for the whole team to prepare them for the season.

There is more to success in sports than just winning.

Stevenson states that she hopes “to create a positive environment for the girls to thrive" and to “build a strong team chemistry both on and off the court.” Stevenson also said, “maintaining the competitive drive while working together [creates] a winning culture.”

But of course, winning is always part of the goal.

For the official season kickoff on Tuesday Aug. 19, the team faced one of their biggest rivals, the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs. While they did not win those games, it is evident that the athletes are already learning and growing from their mistakes through the outcomes of the following games.

In their second game on Thursday, Aug. 21, the girls won both the JV and Freshmen games. While Varsity did not win, they kept everyone on the edge of their seats right up until the end, playing four close scoring sets.

Despite the rough start, through the hard work and dedication from both the athletes and coaches, it’s going to be a good year for the volleyball teams.

The season continues with games every Tuesday and Thursday, with almost one home game a week. The community is encouraged to go out and support the PCHS Volleyball teams!

Stay tuned for more updates as the season continues.
