The 25-26 PCHS Swim Team, with coaches Courtney Lancaster and Savanna Finley, began their swim season with a splash as the bulls broke multiple school records in their first meet of the year. Competing at the Lakewood Ranch YMCA on August 27, the swimmers took on Lakewood Ranch and Booker High School, defeating Booker while falling to a tough Lakewood Ranch team.
The boys’ team set the tone with several record-breaking performances. The Boys A Relay team with swimmers Ryan Davis, Luke Ferra, Camden Macek, and Kaleb Nonnemaker, notched new school records in both the 200 Medley and the 400 Freestyle relays, while Nonnemaker and Macek also added their names to the school record board in the individual 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle respectively.
The girls’ team revealed their leadership throughout the meet. Team captains Cheney Morris and Heidi Privett secured first-place finishes. Morris dominated the 100 Freestyle and Privett claimed the 100 Breaststroke.
Both the girls' and boys' teams showed consistency and commitment during the meets, making their hard work and early 5am practices worthwhile.
Coaches Finley and Lancaster have the overall goal of assessing where the team stands during the first meet. They assessed what went well and what they need to continue to improve as the season progresses.
“We are very happy with the results from the first meet. The beginning of the season is a lot of trial and error for us to determine each swimmers’ strengths in the pool and eventually discover their most competitive events for the state series,” said Lancaster.
The team is looking forward to their next meet on Sept. 13 at GT Bray Aquatic Center at 8:30am where Parrish Community is eager to take on Braden River High School, Saint Stephens Episcopal School, and Bradenton Christian School.
