The Art Club at Parrish Community High School has begun holding meetings and started their activities for the 2025-2026 school year. They have started working on new projects and doing activities for everyone to enjoy.

Meetings are held every Monday after school until 3:30.

The Art Club is managed by Cary Jones, PCHS Commercial Art, Yearbook, and Drawing teacher. She enjoys managing the club and seeing how students have been able to use their creativity to express themselves.

The students have also been able to collaborate and combine their art styles in a fun, new game using a canvas and a timer. Jones described the game as a group bonding experience. Each student gets three minutes to paint on a blank canvas. When the three minutes are up, the canvas is passed to the student next to them. This continues until the canvas gets back to the original artist.

Similar to a game of telephone, students can look at the new painting to see how the original design changed. The activity allowed students to collaborate and create paintings that combine their different art styles.

Gabriella Pena, a senior at Parrish Community High School, is a member of the Art Club and enjoys being a part of a community and having a project to work on that may bring her out of her usual comfort zone.

“My favorite part is definitely being able to relate to the other members and being able to create things out of my comfort zone. I like to challenge myself in my art in order to improve and have other people around me who can relate to my interest in art and push me to do better,” Pena said.

She described another activity they have worked on, which was a tile painting project, where students were able to freely paint tiles that they took home to display. She hopes the club will soon move on to even more exciting and challenging creative activities, some of which she has an interest in for life after high school.

“I hope we’re able to branch out and work on things like 3D models or even working with fabrics in the future. I’ve been thinking of getting involved in fashion design after high school since one of my favorite things to design is intricate clothing.” Pena states.

Pena enjoys being part of this club and feels very welcome and happy to be part of this community.

“I feel at home in a way. I hadn’t really been involved in any extracurriculars or clubs before art club, but this club has introduced me to more people with similar interests to me and it has provided me with a space where I can express myself artistically with other people who can do the same,” Pena describes.

The Art Club at PCHS is a place where students are encouraged to share their creativity and express themselves in an environment that feels comfortable.
