The PCHS Girls’ Golf team achieved their goal of winning the Class 3A FHSAA State Championship for the first time in program history. They competed at the Mission Resort and Club on November 11-12.

The girls fought against the cold weather and a 12-stroke deficit for a come-back victory, winning by 2 strokes on the second day of the competition. What a win!

Additionally, Avery Banfill (Jr.) was an individual medalist, taking 4th place.

Last year, the girls were close to their goal with a third place finish at the state championship. This year, they battled adversity and made huge strides as a team.

“They stopped playing as individuals and played as a team,” Head Coach Erin Lisch said. “When things got tough, they continued to battle for their teammates, and it paid off. We became a mentally strong team and overcame adversity even at the state championship.”

This victory was preceded by additional state series victories.

On October 28, the girls earned the title of District Champions for the third consecutive year. Among the scorers was Krone (Sr.) with 74 strokes. Phoenix Scanlan (Jr.) with 67, Banfill with 70, Natalie Angelo (Jr.) with 74, and Olivia Agate (So.) with 79. The team had an overall score of 285.

On November 4, the girls also earned the title of Regional Champions for the third consecutive year. Among the scorers were Angelo with 73 strokes, Scanlan with 74, Agate with 76, Banfill with 78, and Krone with 79.

Now that the season is over, the girls can focus on what lies ahead. For Krone and fellow senior Stefani Cannon, their futures involve playing golf in college. Cannon got a full scholarship to play Division 1 golf at Delaware State University, while Krone is committed to Fairmont State University.

“I think my best accomplishment on the golf team to date was my ability to turn my game around and help the team take first at the Donald Ross Invitational,” Cannon said. She thanked her coaches, family, and friends in an Instagram post, announcing her commitment with the message, “I’ve finally made it, and it’s only up from here.”

Maya Krone said securing her spot to play collegiate golf changed her approach to the game.

“The day after committing, I shot 74 at Districts,” Krone explained. “I think it was because I felt so relieved that the recruitment process was over. Without the extra pressure of performing for college coaches, I felt a new freedom."

Krone is excited about the opportunity to go to Fairmount for college, saying, “I’m ready to take on the challenges and compete at the next level.”

The girls’ golf team is building a legacy at Parrish Community High School, and this year’s success definitely sets the standard for future teams to come.
