Commercial Art students at Parrish Community High School participated in the 2025 UTC Holiday Greeting Card Contest. In this contest, festive holiday designs that were created by local schools and organizations can be voted on and selected to be presented at the University Town Center Mall in Sarasota.
Schools from elementary through high school were able to create holiday designs following the contests' theme: “Believe” for the competition that can be voted on via the 2025 UTC Sarasota Holiday Greeting Card Contest website. Each school had one work selected for display at UTC.
Parrish Community High Schools’ winning entry features a concert scene with the words “Rock Out” displayed on the stage, several Christmas themed characters, a full crowd, and 6 viewers lined up with letters on their back that spell “Believe!”
Freshman Olivia Drobny won the competition for her design and was selected by Lana Brown, Commercial Art teacher, and Cary Jones, AP Art teacher and Yearbook advisor, at Parrish Community.
“I was super excited. I’m a freshman, so it’s my first year here and I’ve been doing this project in the past with my middle school, so I thought it would be super fun to do it and be a lead on the project.” said Drobny.
She expressed her excitement with the theme and how she felt that she was able to showcase her skills as an artist. “I feel like this is really showing me as an artist and it’s really nice that we got a sweet theme this year and it’s just fun to do,” Drobny states.
The two also selected students to help her during the process. Some of the main artistic contributors to the painting were Sheyla Etienne (Fr.) and Brook Ellis (Sr.)
After a school winner is selected, it takes about a month of planning, sketching, and painting for the finished product to be sent to UTC.
Brown emphasizes the importance of students participating in a contest such as this, “Students who strive for more than just a classroom experience greatly benefit from seeing their work in the community. Additionally, the top three designs in each category with the most votes will win a prize.”
Anyone can vote on the website to help contribute to a school's success. Voting is limited to one vote per day and ends on December 31, 2025. Be sure to send in votes to support Parrish Community HS!
