PCHS Bulletin – Haven Wood and Madison Davenport
Published Date - December 19, 2025
There are many components to the Parrish Community High School JROTC Bulls Battalion, and each have been very busy during the first semester of the 25-26 school year.
The Bulls Battalion publishes monthly newsletters which can be found at their website: https://www.bullsbattalion.com/
The following is an overview of the Fall 2025 semester:
Raiders
Raiders is a competitive athletic program that tests a team's physical endurance, strength, and teamwork, through a series of challenging, outdoor events.
On Saturday, Nov. 15, the Varsity Raiders team closed their season by competing at their state competition, with both the male and female teams placing third overall. This was the first time in school history that the Bulls Battalion reached the podium in state level competition.
"We showed people that we are a team to beat by placing third overall!” cadet Jasmine Dominguez said. “Our teams are very proud of our new record at States. Now we must trust that the cadets after us will carry on our new knowledge and make it again next year.”
On Saturday, Dec. 13, the JV Raiders team competed in their lone competition of the year. The females placed first in one of the events, and third in another, landing them third overall.
Rifle Team
The Bulls Battalion is composed of two rifle teams. Rifle A Team is the primary competitive air rifle team, and Rifle B Team is the secondary team for cadets still improving.
Rifle A Team won their Area Meet and will advance to the State Meet in January. In addition, they won a spot in the Rifle Nationals competition in Anniston, Ala. from Feb 5th to the 7th.
“Our season is still ongoing and likely won't end until February. However, our season started with a decent foundation and quickly built up to our best performing team of all our years!” says Dominguez.
Drill Team
The Drill Team has been officially selected. Drill is a disciplined marching routine that the JROTC cadets perform as a group. Early in the year they receive command sheets and are expected to memorize and perform them at competitions. It is a core part of military training and teaches teamwork, discipline, and attention to detail.
Dominguez is the Drill Team Commander, and she says that even though the season is just starting, she can already see promise in the teams. She says that she trusts her cadets to put all their effort into Drill just like the Raiders and Rifle members did for their teams and that she is fully confident that some of their teams will go to states.
JLAB
JLAB is JROTC’s Academic Bowl. It’s a national competition that tests cadets’ knowledge, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Archery
Archery is a marksmanship sport focused on shooting with a compound bow. The Bulls Battalion has two different archery groups: the competitive Archery Team and the Archery Club that is open to cadets to come shoot and qualify for the team.
Color Guard
There are two aspects of Color Guard, ceremonial Color Guard, and competition Color Guard.
Ceremonial Color Guard is a select team of cadets responsible for the precise and respectful presentation of the national and organizational flags at official events and ceremonies. PCHS’s ceremonial teams practice every Monday to ensure that their movements are precise and that any corrections are made at practice and not during the presentation.
Competition Color Guard is a specialized team that performs military drill movements involving the presentation of the flags and two rifles. They compete at Drill competitions and practice more frequently than the Ceremonial Color Guard in order to prepare for those competitions.
Color Guard Commander Dominguez says that teams have not changed much since last year when both teams qualified for States. She is confident that those teams will make it to States again this year.
Community Service
The JROTC program is heavily involved in the community. On Tuesday, Nov. 11, alongside the PCHS marching band, cheer team, and choir, they participated in the Parrish Civics Association’s first annual Veteran’s Day Parade.
Additionally, Cadets hosted a formal battalion formation to honor and recognize Dogs Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to training service dogs for veterans and individuals with disabilities.
This is part of the program’s annual service-learning project.
The Bulls Battalion looks to carry their first semester success into the second semester.
