The PCHS Girls’ Varsity Basketball team went into winter break with a 3-5 record after losing in a close game to Bell Creek Academy 47-49 on Thursday, Dec. 18.

Their wins this season are from Nov. 20 against Bradenton Christian, Dec. 9 against Southeast, and Dec. 11 against district rival Palmetto.

Guard Jayna Bowen (Jr.) is playing a key part of the team's success this season. Heading into the break, Bowen has averaged 14.0 PPG (points per game) and scored 28 total points.

The Lady Bulls have seen some major changes on the sideline as Kyara Frames took over as the new head coach this season. Between that and new players on the roster, the team has had to work on chemistry on the court.

When asked about the team's potential this season, Frames stated how she plays the game differently than last year's coach.

“I think that we are starting to finally see a spark,” Frames said. “The girls are starting to build some chemistry... it's not going to be perfect, but we’ll be a good team in the peak of our season.”

As the team hasn't started with the strongest record, naturally they have a lot to work on.

“We got to make layups, and we got to stop turning the ball over so much,” Frames said. “But if we continue to practice and get more consistent, we will see a lot of improvement.”

The Lady Bulls Basketball Team looks to make improvements to start the second half of their season with regular season play continuing through January.
