“Chop Wood, Carry Water.”
This is what Andre Johnson is using to coach the PCHS boys’ basketball team this season. The second-year head coach is explaining the process of what it takes to be successful.
“It’s built on doing the simple, often unglamorous fundamentals every single day,” Johnson explains. “It’s a daily reminder that success comes from doing daily work without needing recognition. Focusing on the process and the results will come.”
The motto has certainly stuck with the team so far, as the team currently holds an impressive 13-2 record.
The boys are also currently ranked as the #1 district seed with a 4-0 record in the Class 6A District 11 standings:
Nov. 18 @ Manatee High School 70-46
Dec. 4 vs Lakewood Ranch High School 63-33
Dec. 11 vs Palmetto 63-29
Jan. 6 vs Manatee 74-49
Additionally, the boys had the chance to showcase their talents at the National Hoopfest Thanksgiving Tournament Nov. 28-29, the Tampa Bay Invitational Tournament Dec. 29-30, and then the City of Champions Classic on Jan 3.
Regular season play will continue through the month of January before the focus shifts to the FHSAA state series.
