The Parrish Community High School girls weightlifting team had a great showing at the Manatee County Championship Meet on January 10, 2025.
As a team, PCHS placed 5th in the Olympic category and was tied for 3rd place in the Traditional category. The following lifters placed in their individual categories:
Morgan Maguire (Sr.): 4th in Olympic and Traditional
Zoey Morelli (Jr.): 1st in Olympic and Traditional
Isabella Garcia (Fr.): 6th in Traditional
Remie Joseph (Sr.): 4th in Traditional
Maya White (Sr.): 4th in Olympic and 5th in Traditional
Sophia Thomas (Jr.): 4th in Olympic and 5th in Traditional
Selin Meric (Jr.): 5th in Olympic and 6th in Traditional
Madeleine Frazzini (So.): 5th in Olympic and 1st in Traditional
Riley Lee (Jr.): 6th in Olympic
In addition, Morelli was recognized as the Top Olympic Lifter of the County Championship Meet, with a 145lbs snatch and 170lbs clean adding up for an overall lift of 315lbs.
Head Coach Remi Hebert mentioned that it was a very strong showing for the Bulls despite being down a few lifters.
“I’m excited heading into Districts this weekend,” she stated. “We’re prepared and focused...the team has put in hard work all season, and now it’s about trusting our training and competing with confidence.”
Hebert acknowledged the growth that this year’s team has undergone, not just with the roster, but with experience.
“This team has grown tremendously,” Hebert said. “Many athletes began the season with only traditional lifting experience and quickly learned Olympic lifts. They continue to push through, train with intention, and put in work outside the weight room, which speaks volumes about their commitment and growth.”
With the expanded roster, Hebert admires the “diversity and motivation” that comes with this year’s team, saying it has “strengthened our program and team culture.”
“The athletes push themselves and support each other daily,” she added. “Like any growing program, we’re still building consistency and experience, but the effort and mindset are exactly where they need to be.”
The Lady Bulls have set themselves up in a good position for the district meet on January 24 at Manatee High School.
