The Girls Parrish Community Wresting season is in full swing. They practice every day and have competed at a high level with some of the best schools in the state.
Head Coach Tyler Small highlighted wrestlers Kaja Williams (Sr.), Zoelie Bui (Jr.), and Lily Pellegrino (Sr.). They are leading the way for the ladies.
The girls’ program was recognized in the first Ladies of the Ring tournament on November 29. This event displays the growth of girls’ wrestling. While the Bulls did not take the top 3 as a team, Alyssa Cox and Williams took to the podium with a first and second place finish respectively.
Another notable meet was the Ben Richards IBT on December 8. The girls took seventh out of 40 teams. Williams took to the podium with a first-place finish. She was joined by Cox and McKenna Karns with third place finishes.
Over Winter Break, there were two opportunities for the girls to compete. While some of the girls took to Port Charlotte, Williams and Bui went to Kissimmee for an intense tournament. After two losses, wrestlers end their weekend. Williams and Bui both advanced to day two of the tournament, with Williams ranking ninth by the end.
Returning from Winter Break, the girls took the second-place trophy at the John Joyce Memorial on January 9. All seven wrestlers medaled. Williams and Bui took first place finishes followed by Pellegrino and Cox with second place finishes and Victoria Dowling with a third-place finish. Karns and Ja’Mya Hallmon medaled but did not make the podium.
On January 17, the girls competed at the Ricky Gullet Invitational where Williams took first, and Bui had to fight for third. Additionally, Cox took fourth.
The girls ended the month with the Moscowitz IBT on January 23. This was a big tournament with at least 50 teams. Willams said it would be a good test of their skills with the state series coming up.
The girls look ahead to senior night, and the state series in February.
