Bulletin: Basketball

PCHS Bulletin – Mary-Kate Wainscott

Playoff season is underway for the PCHS basketball teams. The boys took down Charlotte High School 60-38 on Saturday, February 7 to bring home their first district title in school history. 

Their success continued with another win against Palmetto Ridge 81-60 for the regional quarterfinals on Saturday, February 14. They will play again for the regional semifinals against East Lake on Saturday, February 21. 

The girls played a district quarterfinal game against Palmetto High School on February 2 and unfortunately lost 64-59, bringing their season to an end. 

Both teams celebrated their seniors on their well-deserved senior nights at the end of January. Both boys' and girls' organizations have progressed amazing athletes that are committed to doing bigger and better things after high school. It's time to give some recognition. 

BOYS 

Evan Roberts: Roberts has been playing basketball since he was two years old. He brings a kind of leadership and dedication to the team, helping shape the team as it is now. After graduation, Roberts signed his letter of intent to play D1 basketball at Jacksonville University while majoring in cybersecurity. 

Landon Shelton: Shelton has been playing basketball for a good decade now. He sees himself as the “hype man” of the team, saying, “I like to get hyped with my teammates, and I feel like I just bring the energy.” After graduation, Shelton plans to attend Florida Gulf Coast University and major in sports management. 

Holden Russell: Russell has been playing basketball for four years, making varsity the last two years. Like Shelton, he also sees himself as the “hype guy,” and believes his playmaking skills contribute well to the team’s camaraderie. After graduation, Russell plans to attend Florida Atlantic University to study business and finance. 

GIRLS 

Julianna Daria: Daria has been playing basketball since 8th grade and brings good defensive and leadership skills to the team. After graduation, Daria plans on attending SCF for her pre rec for nursing while she's working, then transfer to a different school to do nursing.  

Khendal Clark: Clark has been playing basketball since she was nine years old. Head Coach Kyara Frames says she brings “a great shooting game.” After graduation, Clark plans to attend Florida Atlantic University to major in sports management. 

Malayna VandenHoek: VandenHoek has been playing basketball for seven years. Head coach Frames highlighted her “defense” skills. After graduation, VandenHoek plans to attend Florida Gulf Coast University to major in nursing. 

Mia Polenso: Polenso has been playing basketball since third grade. She calls herself “outgoing and comforting to the new freshmen” and also believes she has a “good voice managing.” She doesn’t plan on playing college basketball but is looking to still compete with a club in college. She hopes to attend FSU and then go to dental school. 

Aly Little: Little started playing basketball her freshman year of high school. She sees herself as the player who is always communicating and uniting the girls during games and practices. After graduation, Little will be attending Florida Atlantic University to study psychology and law.
