Due to their stellar performance as FHSAA State Champions, the girls' golf team at Parrish Community High School received a prestigious invitation to participate in the PGA High School Golf National Invitational in Pinehurst, NC July 11-13.

This is an honor as they will join teams from around the world. Since nationals is not a school event, the girls won’t be representing PCHS; they will be representing the state of Florida. They are working to raise funds to attend. So far, they have raised $9,000 towards their $12,000 goal.

Coach Erin Lisch said, “Theses girls eat, breathe, sleep golf. It’s not just a ‘play during the season’ team; it’s a group that plays every day of the week.”

She went on to say that all the girls want to go to the next level and are extremely dedicated.

“They are competing in tournaments throughout the year that are high stakes, which helps them adjust to the pressure that you’d see at the state tournament level. They don’t want to just be good; they want to be great, and it paid off this season,” said Lisch.

The girls who are competing at nationals are Avery Banfill (Jr.), Phoenix Scanlan (Jr.), Olivia Agate (So.), Maya Krone (Sr.), and Stefani Cannon (Sr.). These are the same girls who competed in the state championship back in November.

Even though the high school season is over, the girls continue to practice every day. They occasionally get together to practice as a team.

They are also waiting for an official ceremony to receive their state championship rings. The date hasn’t been set yet, but the ceremony will occur this spring.

This talented group of girls has worked so hard for everything they have achieved this year, and it is well worth it.
