The girls' and boys' soccer teams both played Lakewood Ranch for the District Championship on January 26 and 27 respectively. The girls reclaimed their district title with a 4-2 victory in overtime while the boys unfortunately fell short 3-0, bringing their season to an end.

The boys announced the end of their season with a post on their Instagram saying, ”we will be back next year, stronger and better than ever!” They concluded their season with a 9-7-2 record and finished second in the district.

The girls went on to compete in the regional quarterfinals against Palmetto Ridge on February 5 with an impressive 7-0 victory. This advanced them to the regional semifinals, a first in program history, against East Lake on February 11. Despite their best efforts, their season came to an end with a 1-2 loss.

In addition to their season success, the team announced on February 10 that they won the Herald-Tribune Team of the Month for January. This was a poll for the Manatee/Sarasota County Teams. The girls earned this after defeating Lakewood Ranch and reclaiming their district title. The nominees were teams from Parrish, Booker, Braden River, North Port, Saint Stephens, and Venice.

Coach Mentzer mentioned it was the first time the team had been nominated for the award. This goes to show the hard work and heart the whole team has put in this season.

He hopes that the players can remember the loss of this season and work harder to get to their main goal, states.

Senior Captain Isabella Santora reflected on the season and the legacy she will leave behind. She said, “There were some rough patches at beginning, but overall, the season was good.”

Santora also went on to say that she feels “very confident” about the girls that will be taking over as leaders next season.
