Students apart of the Parrish Community High School choir program have had an amazing quarter, from a great field trip to New York City, to their honor choir performance, to conclude with straight superiors at their MPA performance.

New York City was a five-day long field trip January 2-6 where both theatre and choir got to experience two Broadway shows, sightseeing, and the choir got to sing in cathedrals. This trip also included sing-along diners, a trip around Times Square, and a workshop with Broadway cast members from Aladdin.

Then, the choir program participated in an exclusive workshop and performance with their invitation to participate in the Manatee Honor Choir at SCF’s Neel Auditorium on Saturday, January 24. A post from the PCHS Choral Boosters said it was “an incredible opportunity to share community, create beauty, and to learn from phenomenal clinicians.”

This event kicked started their quarter, getting students prepared for future performances and gave them a one-of-a-kind experience.

Their next event was their music performance assessment (MPA). MPA is a judged performance where school choirs sing prepared pieces for judges, who score them on characteristics such as tone, quality, accuracy, and sight reading.

All four choir groups took to Venice on Wednesday, Feb 4 where they earned straight superior ratings. The Choral Boosters called the day “full of joy and beautiful singing.”

Jomari Coleman, a student in men's choir says, “MPA was a fun experience, I got to hang out with my friends and do what I enjoy most with them, finding out we got straight superiors was just the cherry on top to a great performance.”
