As the band and orchestra programs traverse through tumultuous seasons of Music Performance Assessments (MPA), Parrish Community High School has been filled with the sounds of commitment and success this winter.
The PCHS band program hosted two prestigious events at the end of January, beginning with the 2nd annual All County Honor Band concert. Five PCHS students performed, highlighted by sophomore Zachary Sullivan who secured the principal trombone chair.
This was followed by the Florida Bandmaster’s Association District 11 Solo and Ensemble Festival. PCHS hosted this event for the third consecutive year. The PCHS band students rose to the occasion, bringing home an impressive haul of 38 superior medals and 11 excellent awards.
The momentum continued as 35 students across 10 different events qualified for the prestigious State competition. Eight of those events chose to submit virtual performances for States.
Following a successful showing, the bands performed in a pre-MPA concert on Tuesday, February 7. This prepared them for their MPA event on Saturday, March 7. The concert band earned an excellent rating while the Wind Ensemble achieved a superior rating, giving them the right to perform at the State MPA at Venice High School on May 2.
The orchestra program also went through preparations to make their mark at the district MPA. On Friday, February 20, both the Philharmonic Orchestra, consisting of 36 students, and the Symphony Orchestra, with 27 students, traveled to Venice High School. There, they performed before a panel of judges, receiving critical feedback and ratings that reflect their hard work and technical precision throughout the school year. The Symphony Orchestra came home with a Superior rating. Philharmonic orchestra had received a Excellent rating from the judges.
These events highlight the PCHS music programs’ commitment to local music quality.
