The PCHS Flag Football team concluded their regular season with senior night on April 15 with a 20-0 victory over Venice High School. The team now shifts their focus to the district playoffs starting April 20.

The team celebrated seniors Kaylin Kitchens and Talia Stilley during senior night. They walked the field and were gifted with a custom blanket and crewneck.

Kitchens serves as one of the team’s captains. She said, “We had to figure out how some of us work. It's definitely different from last year because we have a bigger team.”

She also speaks on how she appreciates her coaches helping them become closer and improve their season.

The other captains for the season are Kiana Brito (Jr.), Jayna Bowen (Jr.), and Sierra Rivera (So.).

This year's season has made the players cooperative and flexible with the changes from last year. The team grew enough to create both a varsity and a JV team.

Varsity goes into the state series with an 11-4 record.

Coach Michael Bailey spoke on some of their season highlights, including their season-opening win over Manatee 26-12, their two wins over Southeast 43-0 and 46-6 respectively, and their home win against Lakewood Ranch 12-0.

April 15 also saw the end of the JV season. Unfortunately, due to the weather, numerous JV matches were cancelled, but they won 19-0 against Venice to bring their season record to 4-1.

Freshman Kenzy Elsherif said, “Even though I was out injured, my coaches helped me gain confidence and I improved a lot by the end of the season.”

They also worked through the season reminded of their goals to always find a way to get better and continually grow to reach their season goals.

Coach Bailey said their goal for the season was to “always find a way to get better each day. If we continue to grow each day as the season progresses, we expect to reach a number of our seasonal goals.”

They will keep this goal in mind as they take on Gaither in the district quarterfinals on Monday, April 20. This will be a home game as Parrish is the higher seed.
