Photography students were recognized for recent success at Parrish Community High School.

In an email, photography teacher Kelly Schweers said, “These recognitions reflect not only the students’ dedication, but also the supportive environment we have here at PCHS.”

Florida Scholastic Press Association (FSPA)

FSPA is the premier organization for student journalists and scholastic media programs in Florida, dedicated to educating future media professionals and promoting the responsible exercise of the first amendment through adherence to the highest standards of journalism. It was announced April 11, where 16 students participated. All-Florida recognition means they received 1st  place for the entire state for a particular category.

Senior Jayanna Andre earned All-Florida recognition with her first-place finish in the Personal Portrait category.

Andre’s photo was also used in a decent exhibit for the Dali museum.

“The theme for the Dali exhibit was obsession. I thought technology was the best way to show that in my artwork,” said Andre.

Young at Art Competition

Young at Art is a competition through the Island Art League 155+ pieces of 2D and 3D artwork from 17 Manatee County schools, featuring students from kindergarten to high school. It was on April 3, where 10 students participated, which was the maximum allowed of entries to submit.

Junior Madalyn Rangel took first place and Senior Keely Gamble took third place.

Strawberry Festival

The Florida Strawberry Festival is an 11-day annual community event in Plant City celebrating the local strawberry harvest with concerts, food, and rides. It features a popular Photo Contest with professional, amateur, and youth categories, showcasing, agriculture, people, and landscapes, often sponsored by Spivey Concessions. It opened on February 26 and ended on March 8, with 18 students participating.

In the Youth (14-18) category, Senior Avery Scribner took 2nd place, Senior Blake Sanchez took 3rd place, and Zachary Laney received an honorable mention. Additionally, Rangel also received an honorable mention in the agricultural architecture categories.
