The Parrish Community High School Chapter of National Honor Society capped off their year with their annual induction of new members for the 26-27 school year.

The National Honor Society is an extremely competitive and selective organization to be admitted into. Firstly, students who have an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher are invited to join NHS in January for a Spring induction. The advisor, Mercedes Wildman, provides the evaluation in being invited are:

  • The faculty council takes into account a student's GPA, leadership, community service, and character score.

  • Each of those four pillars of NHS (Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character) are evaluated against a rubric, and scores are given based on a student's written responses and attachments from their application.

  • The leadership and community service are strictly based on their involvement, and the character score is a score that used the teacher's recommendations as well as the totality of their application.

Because the National Honor Society is a service organization, Wildman states that there are high expectations for students to not just excel in their academics but also contribute to their school and community as leaders. Wildman further provides, “It is a student-led organization with most of the responsibility on the members to organize, communicate, and participate in various activities and service throughout the year.”

These students have so much potential, and Wildman sees it, challenging the new inductees to “step up and become leaders and not just hang back and see where they are needed. I would like them to take initiative in not just participating but also making this a stronger service organization.”

Soon after the induction, a meeting was held on May 4 to elect the 26-27 officer team. Those members are rising seniors:

  • President - Sianalis Thomson

  • Vice President - Savannah White

  • Secretary - Anais Adams-Toglia

  • Treasurer - Sophia Thomas

  • Historian - Zoey Morelli

Aly Little, the outgoing president of the 25-26 NHS chapter, had a great experience and has high hopes for the incoming officer team, saying, “Through NHS I learned how to collaborate with others, brainstorm solutions to problems, and unite my school for the betterment of our community.”

Getting through an extremely competitive selection process and building their resume with impressive academics and leaderships, these students worked extremely hard to get here!

With the year coming to an end, there are high hopes for the amazing 26-27 chapter! The new inductees are:
