The PCHS boys' and girls' tennis teams had an amazing season with many things to be proud of. The boys finished third at districts while the girls took runner up to advance to the regional semifinals to conclude their season.
Head Coach Erin Lisch said, “The team worked so hard this season. This year was a year of rebuilding, and they did such a good job. Overall, this year was a success.”
After losing three starting seniors, the girls’ team has had to rebuild a strong team. Eva Call stepped up as a rising senior became a team leader. She advanced to the district finals for both singles and doubles.
Call said, “You’re joining a team that doesn't just care about you as a player, but more so as a person. I’ve made numerous friendships that will continue past high school that transcend tennis. It's important going into the season that your objective does not solely lie with tennis but also fostering the relationships with those around you.”
Cooper Lane was a standout player for the boys. Lisch said he had “big gains” this season going from the #5 to the #3 player along with moving to #1 for doubles.
Lane said, “I had such a good season this year with the team. The whole team bonded this season and that didn't just make the team better but made me a better player overall.”
Lane continues to play tournaments in the off season and is seeing success.
The tennis team held an end of season banquet to celebrate their season.
Call and Mattias Maier earned the MVP award; Lane and Juliette Buter earned the Most Improved award; and Josh Nicklis earned the Impact Player award.
Not only did these students dominate the court, but they also dominated the classroom. The girl's tennis team finished first in state for academic excellence with a 3.927 GPA while the boys finished third with a 3.388 GPA.
Although they scored as individuals this season, they came together as a team and completed an extremely competitive season. They strive to build on this success next year.
