The flag football team ended their season in regionals-finals against East Lake with a final score of 0-27 on May 4. They won the regional semifinal game against Gateway Charter on April 29. This is the furthest the team has advanced in the FHSAA state series, having previously lost in the first round of regional playoffs.

At the conclusion of their season the team reflected on lessons learned and started thinking of goals for next year.

Team Captain and WR/LB Sierra Rivera spoke on how she thought the season went. “Our team executed well, we all got together and communicated and performed well.” She says it was a “memorable experience”.

Rivera also spoke of highlights at the regional semifinal game including Quarterback Amelia Someson throwing to receiver Jayna Bowen for a touchdown. Another highlight was Someson on defense as safety getting a pick six for an interception.

Some of the goals for the next season are to advance further in the state series and learn how to be better athletes with more opportunities.

Additionally, the following players were recognized on May 26 by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune (HT Preps) for the All-Area team:

  • Jayna Bowen

  • Kiana Brito
