September 11, 2001. The 9/11 attacks will go down in history as the worst series of terrorist attacks in the world, taking the lives of 2,977 people. 

25 years later, Parrish Community High School is honoring and remembering with its school community.

Beginning at 7am, the traditional game day pep rally had a patriotic twist, with the Bulls Battalion presenting the nation's colors in front of its staff dressed in their camouflaged OCPs, presenting a salute as the Pride of Parrish Marching Band played the national anthem.

"Our salute was a sign of respect for those who lost their lives saving others on 9/11," Second Lieutenant (2LT) Wyatt Forsyth (Sr.) stated. 

Students were also encouraged to wear red, white, and blue to school that day.

As the school day got underway, Bullseye News aired a special show to honor 9/11, with multiple student-produced segments featuring teacher accounts and stories from the most terrifying day in American history. TV Production teacher Erin Lisch felt it was important for students to see multiple perspectives from that day.

"They never lived through it," Lisch said. "It kind of gave them an insight into the timeline, how our teachers felt during that, and just a glimpse into the heroes that gave their all that day and the days after."

Lisch also expressed how important it was to include accounts from teachers on what they experienced on 9/11.

"It's a hard time...so giving them that ability to express those emotions and grieve as a unit was really important to me," Lisch said. "Overall, I just really wanted our school to be able to commemorate those difficult times that we all had to go through and move forward as a country."

At 8:46am, Principal Daniel Bradshaw paged the PA system and led the school in a moment of silence to mark the time that the North Tower was struck by American Airlines Flight 11. It was the first of four plane crashes, with United Airlines Flight 175 hitting the South Tower at 9:03am, American Airlines Flight 77 striking the Pentagon at 9:37am, and United Airlines Flight 93 crashing into a Shanksville, Pennsylvania field at 10:03am.

An additional moment of remembrance is being held during pregame ceremonies as the Parrish Bulls hosted the Palm Harbor University Hurricanes in a USA-themed game. 

Bradshaw said in an email to staff: "Thank you for helping us ensure this remembrance is conducted with the dignity and respect it deserves."
