Imagine experiencing your first-ever American baseball game and thinking… “It’s like in the movies!” That’s exactly what happened on Thursday when our 10 visiting teachers from Spain headed to LECOM Park in Bradenton.
Pablo (Daughtrey Elementary) and Sofía (Prine Elementary), two first-year School District of Manatee County Dual Language Program teachers, got to throw out the first pitch! But this experience is about so much more than baseball.
Our teachers from Spain are here to exchange ideas, share their culture, inspire our students, and learn about ours. Every classroom conversation, community experience, and new adventure gives them something to take back to Spain and share with their own students years from now.

The Florida Department of Education released the Florida Value Added Model (VAM) Fiscal Transparency Tool, a web-based fiscal transparency tool that identifies public schools and districts with high academic achievement based on the ratio of classroom expenditures to total expenditures. VAM is intended to help taxpayers evaluate the financial efficiency of a school district with other similarly situated school districts. At Palmetto Elementary School, it takes a village... and Tamika Brown is a perfect example of that.
As a school bus attendant, Tamika already plays an important role in students’ daily routines, but she doesn't stop there.
She recently volunteered to chaperone the first grade field trip to Mote SEA, once again showing her dedication to students.

Thank you to ABC7's Linda Carson for inviting Derek Jensen, Deputy Superintendent of Instruction, and Debra Estes, Director of ESOL, Migrant, and Dual Language programs to celebrate #HispanicHeritageMonth on Suncoast View.
They discussed how the dual language programs are preparing students for a successful future, and thanked the educators who are involved in such impactful work every day.
