This school year, Parrish Community got an upgrade: brand new Promethean boards in all of the classrooms.

The boards were installed over the summer, and act as an interactive learning tool that can be used as a whiteboard, as well as allowing teachers to connect to a computer to it to display notes, assignments, or a daily agenda.

The boards have been useful in classrooms, while also having their challenges. PCHS junior Lily Asher said, “Teachers use it to annotate everything, so it's easy to take notes during class.”

With the writing feature on the boards, teachers can annotate videos, worksheets, and notes. Writing on the boards allows students to retain information, and it allows teachers to convey more information in different ways.

The addition of the new technology, however, has not been perfect. Teachers have had to adjust to the mechanics of the boards, which can be quite challenging at times.

Junior at PCHS, Ally Gill says that for her, the board does not make learning any easier because “it takes a while to get the board working, and it takes away more class time and learning that we could have had with a regular whiteboard.” The boards glitch at times, and it can be a struggle to connect a device to it.

The boards might be a large adjustment for teachers and students, but overall, the development of this technology is aimed at making students’ learning experiences better. After the initial struggles pass, Promethean Boards will be a great addition to the school.
