With the new school year in session, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) starts a new chapter. The Parrish Community High School HOSA club has more in store to be as successful as they can be!
In HOSA, students learn about the medical field and are able to explore different career paths. Not only that, but they have competitions that can be tests, skill demonstrations, or partnerships that cater to their career of interest. Their main focus as a club is to develop leadership and have hands-on experience to prepare themselves for the future of the medical field.
This year's HOSA officer team includes:
President: Cesar Cortes
Vice President: Maya Uralil
Secretary: Azamara Christian
Treasurer: Anusha Uralil
Reporter: Kaitlyn Harrington
Historian Cooper Korney
From organizing events and creating new opportunities, this officer team is constantly working to build a supportive, inclusive, and successful community. This team shows and expresses unwavering commitment for the success of this club, putting in time, energy, and passion in it.
The previous year, HOSA claimed many successes throughout its tenure. Vice President Maya Uralil (Sr.) at Parrish, states, “Last year we focused on competition prep. We held study times after school that allowed students to develop and learn about what they were competing in.” With this preparation and hard work, the club was able to take over 50 students to states where one student had even placed 1st place.
With the great success of last year, this year the HOSA officer team has more plans to offer to make the club even more successful. Uralil explains how this year they are starting a "membership" program. With plans to attend more competitions, this program assigns members to an officer based on their competitive event.
“This ensures that everyone is working hard and motivated to succeed,” Urail says.
There are many more changes on the way to HOSA, with some being on how the officer team runs the club. To uplift the members, the officers hope to make every meeting fun by introducing raffles and skill demonstrations. They have also decided to adhere better to proper parliamentary procedures to conduct meetings in an organized, fair, and efficient manner.
Just recently, the club was able to go on a trip to the HOSA Regional Fall Conference. Here, the club was informed about dates as well as updates regarding regional and state conferences where the students can develop leadership skills, participate in competitive events, attend educational sessions, and connect with peers and health professionals.
As the year progresses, the PCHS HOSA club remains focused on growth and becoming the best they could be. Whether through service projects, leadership training, or preparation for competitions, this club helps create a strong foundation for students interested in the medical field. So, if you are interested, HOSA meets on Thursdays in room 5-201!
