Topics Mandated for Instruction by the Florida Department of Education
Beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, the State Board of Education approved Rule 6A-1.094124, F.A.C. The rule mandates instruction across all grade levels for health education topics including mental and emotional health; substance use and abuse prevention; and child trafficking prevention.

Reproductive Health Education
Health Education Curriculum Summary (updated for 2024-2025)
Per Florida Statute 1003.42(5), parents have the right to exempt their student(s) "from the teaching of reproductive health or any disease, including HIV/AIDS, its symptoms, development, and treatment" without penalization. Students who have been exempted from instruction on these topics will be provided with an alternative assignment. If you do not wish for your student to participate in reproductive health instruction, please complete the information in the provided opt-out letter and return to his/her Principal.
