(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - LRHS Mini Mustangs got to learn about the life cycle by raising and hatching their own chicken eggs.
The Lakewood Ranch Mini Mustangs lesson of the week was learning about the different stages of development in a chicken.
Mini Mustang teacher Sara Lay said, “The kids got to use flashlights to watch the embryo slowly grow.”
They received eggs and kept them in an incubator so they could look every day to see them grow. They were tasked with coming up with hypotheses that would share their thoughts on what they thought was going to happen when the eggs hatched.

Lay said, “The eggs hatched on Easter, so the students got the excitement of watching the video of the chicks hatching on Easter.”
Every day they would go over the different stages the chicken was in. Once the chicks hatched the students were given the opportunity to hold them and learn more about how the chicken will develop and grow to an adult chicken.
