Alexandra Khalil- Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - Summertime is a break for some Mustangs, but for others it means continuing their responsibilities in the barn.
During the summertime, the LRHS FFA chapter exhibitors take care of the animals that are housed on campus.
One of the chapter exhibitors, Collete Testa, senior, said, “I am exhibiting our chapter steer, his name is Kingston he is housed at the barn, I take care of him, feed him, bath him, and walk him.”
The times are flexible for feeding the steers and each exhibitor oversees their own animal. Right now the barn has steers. In the fall the barn will have swine and dairy heifers.

In the summer LRHS agriculture teacher Mckenzie Gorskey said, “I do everything I do during the school year without kids, that includes facility management, maintenance animal health checks, weighing animals, showmanship practices, state FFA conventions, and I am running a summer camp the first week of June.”
The students and Gorskey take care of the animals by working hand in hand with a veterinarian, which includes daily health checks and monitoring animal behavior such as their feed consumption and weight.
Here is the list of the students who are taking care of steers over the summer -
