Maya Gilkison- Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - LRHS School Support Specialist Samantha Biggs is taking her involvement and experience as a Mustang to a new level.

Biggs will be promoted to assistant principal during the 2025-2026 school year.

“Growing in a career is tough, but my family has never wavered in their support of me. My parents have provided guidance, and my husband has been my constant support.” Stated Biggs in response to her new position.

Biggs current position primarily deals with student discipline; however, her new role will expand to also working directly with teachers and the school district.

As an assistant principal Biggs will be tasked with working with the school's administrative team to problem-solve, partner with teachers, and create an inclusive community for students and teachers.

She taught at LRHS for eight years in a variety of subjects: World and Cultural Geography, World History, English 2 Honors, Advance Placement (AP) Human Geography, and AP Seminar. She has contributed to helping start the AP Capstone program, starting and coaching the girl's lacrosse team, and coaching the basketball and softball team.

An important aspect of the job to Biggs is the students. She looks forward to being able to continue greeting students, celebrating them, consoling them, and walking side by side with them as they navigate high school.

“It’s really validating. I have given everything I can to Lakewood Ranch High School for 10 years. I have taught, coached, and worked in administration and with every role I have given my all to it. It’s a very rewarding feeling to know that efforts have made a difference,”

Biggs ended with, “I also have a 2-year-old who is an honorary Mustang. She has been a dancer and cheerleader on Friday nights, and I love how the Lakewood Ranch High School community has embraced her.”
