Samuel Durkee - Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – As new mustangs begin high school or return for another year, they often search for different clubs or organizations to be a part of.
One of these clubs is the Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program, predominantly student-run and dedicated to motivating Mustangs to become better citizens.
From the outside, JROTC may reflects an image of a strict military program but within the organization it is much deeper than that.
JROTC Cadet First Lieutenant Savannah Moore, senior, said, “I began to know people, and they began to know me, team building was helpful and made everyone a little closer.”
Mustang Battalion is overseen by instructors MSgt. William Cassidy and Lt.Col. Richard Roller.

The battalion is now preparing for this year’s incoming cadets and many leadership changes.
Cassidy said, “This year’s staff will create more products than any staff previously."
JROTC teaches cadets the importance of unity, self-accomplishment, and readies them for any potential path they take after school, even if it’s not military.
The program also offers extracurricular activities including Rifle Team and the Raider Team for cadets who wish to challenge themselves physically and mentally.
