(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) teachers gained knowledge and experience at the 2025 Advanced Placement (AP) Conference this summer in Boston, MA.

The conference took place from July 16-19 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. LRHS sent 10 teachers representing a variety of AP subjects.

According to the College Board website, “The AP Annual Conference brings together thousands of education professionals from the AP and Pre-AP® communities. The conference schedule features workshops, content-driven sessions, and exhibits.”

The conference contained sessions for the different subjects AP classes cover.

LRHS history teacher Ben Hall said, “I thought the sessions I attended at the conference were very beneficial.

“A lot of them were focused on kind of either technology or teaching strategies to be used in the economics classroom. And so I've brought a lot of those things into my teaching this year.”

Science teacher Tana Phelps commented on the sessions, “Some of those were incredible and I learned some really cool things. Some of them were a little repetitive and or like boring or things I already knew.”

The teachers were able to explore Boston, including going to the Boston Museum.

Hall said, “being a history teacher, getting to see kind of like where a lot of the events that led to the American Revolution took place was probably more exciting for me than going to some of the conference sessions.”

When asked if she was confident in the future of the AP program, English teacher Debra Mccarthy said, “Of course, it is a valuable resource for students…it teaches them resiliency and it offers them such wonderful real-world skills that I really hope that the program grows.”
