(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - The Mustang swimmers are off to a strong start.

The first swim meet is scheduled for 4 p.m., Aug. 27.  The meet will be held at the YMCA, and it will be against Parrish and Manatee High Schools. Many new swimmers are looking forward to experiencing their first high school level meet.

Freshman Andrew Walfield said, “What I'm looking forward to this swim season is all the friends I will make and all the meets I will experience.”

Last year the LRHS swim team had three seniors, and now the team has over ten.

One of the seniors, Valeria Para, commented on her final year of swim, “It is emotional knowing this is my last year since I basically grew up with this team and have built lifelong friendships, but I'm excited for what's to come and I'm excited for the team to get better.”

With only three seniors leaving last year, the team is equipped with many experienced swimmers who are able to be mentors to the newer ones and help them improve.

Senior Captain Kyle Goodwin said, “This season is looking very promising. I know a lot of newer swimmers have been improving and I am excited to see this team grow both in speed and in team spirit.”

Head Coach Paul Sochin added, “This team has shown great team cooperation, unity, support, and hard work. Our team is looking very strong in the water with their strokes improving.”
