kindness

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – September is National Courtesy Month, a time to spread kindness to others.

“The word courteous comes from the Middle English word 'kindness,' which means 'noble deeds' or 'courtesy’.” Said the National Day Calendar.

There are multiple ways to be kind - helping others, being polite and having good manners, kind actions or words, and showing respect.

Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Attendance Clerk Andrea Watkins welcomes students, parents, and visitors to the school every day.  She appreciates the value of courtesy.

“Why is it important to be kind to others? You never know when someone is having a difficult day and being kind could help somebody feel better.” she said.

Throughout September, choose a way to show courtesy to a friend, family member, teacher, stranger, or anyone else to brighten up their day.

Simple actions such as holding a door open for someone, complimenting someone, smiling at people, and making everyone feel included are other examples of kindness.

National Courtesy Month was first celebrated in June 1979 in Singapore.
