(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) seniors Kylie Scott, Chloe Drapak, and Zachariah Kersey have been selected as finalists in the annual Constitution Day Essay Contest.

The contest is sponsored by the Manatee County School District and the Rotary Club of Bradenton. Out of many submissions across the county, only three finalists were invited to the ceremony.

Every year students across Manatee County take part in the “What the Constitution Means to Me” Essay Contest, a unique opportunity to sharpen writing skills while reflecting on one of the most important documents in American history. The contest challenges students to think deeply about the principles, rights, and responsibilities enshrined in the Constitution and to connect those ideas to their own lives and the world today.

Essays are judged on historical accuracy, clarity of thought, organization, grammar, and proper documentation, meaning students must not only write with heart but also with precision. Winners can earn recognition and awards of up to $1,500.

Drapak shared, “I was very grateful for the opportunity to be able to share how the Constitution shapes my daily life in wonderful ways,”

She went on to add that writing the essay “made me realize the Constitution is more than just a document, it’s a living framework that still protects and guides us today.”

As student Aidan Garfin, a participant explains, “This was more than just an assignment, it’s an opportunity to reflect on how the Constitution continues to shape our amazing democracy.”

The winners' placements will be officially announced at the upcoming ceremony at Pier 22 on Sept. 22, but regardless of the outcome, LRHS is proud to have three outstanding students representing our school and carrying forward the spirit of civic engagement.
