Congratulations to Tammy Harper, who was recently recognized by Spectrum Bay News 9 as an A+ Teacher!
A dedicated educator at Lakewood Ranch High School, Mrs. Harper’s journey started inside a hospital. A former medical technologist, she transitioned into education through Florida’s Alternative Certification Program, and now, 23 years later, she continues to make a lasting impact on her students.
Mrs. Harper teaches Chemistry and AP Research, one of the cornerstone courses of the AP Capstone™ Program. AP Capstone is an innovative diploma program from the College Board that equips students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills essential for success in college and beyond.
In AP Research, students design and conduct their own investigations on topics they’re passionate about, learning to think critically, analyze sources, and present evidence-based arguments.
For example, juniors Maggie and Raina teamed up to research superstitions in sports, a topic they chose based on personal interest. They say they enjoy the independence that comes with AP Research because it allows them to take a deeper dive into learning and explore questions that matter to them.
We’re proud to celebrate Mrs. Harper’s well-deserved recognition as an A+ Teacher. Her passion for science, commitment to student success, and innovative teaching methods are helping prepare students not just for college, but for life.
