(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - The Lakewood Ranch High school (LRHS) varsity football team is looking to bounce back after back-to-back losses on the road.
The first came on Sept. 26 at the Lennard Longhorns where the Mustangs lost 0-35.
The second was on Oct. 3 where the Mustangs lost to the Sarasota Sailors in a close game of 37-41.
The Mustangs scored first that game with a rushing touchdown from senior Cooper Orzel. The Sailors then scored on their first possession as well, ending the first quarter 7-7.
The Mustangs then opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 20-yard rushing touchdown from junior Justin Flores. Lennard then scored a touchdown but missed the kick, making the score 14-13.
With three minutes left in the first half the Mustangs scored again with a 12-yard rushing touchdown from senior Austin Cook. The half then ended with the Mustangs being up 21-13.

The second half started with a score from Sarasota and a 2-point conversion tying the game at 21. Sarasota then recovered a fumble and brought it down the field to make the score 21-28.
The Mustangs opened the fourth quarter with a passing touchdown tying the game at 28. They would then kick a field goal on their next possession taking a 31-28 lead with eight minutes left.
At the four-minute mark, the Mustangs scored another rushing touchdown but missed the kick making it 37-28.
Sarasota scored making the score 37-35 and then recovered a fumble. Sarasota would get into the endzone making and ending the game 37-41.
“Losses don’t define teams,” said junior Ed Grayson. “Their skill and capabilities are what set teams apart from those losses. If we can fix the little things, then there is a better chance of winning out the rest of the season and hopefully making playoffs.”.
The Mustangs’ next scheduled game is away against Palmetto High School.
