Katherine Selai- Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- November 17-19, periods 1-3, the Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Agriculture (Ag) Department will welcome Mustangs to join them on tours of their facilities and to meet the livestock.
The Ag classes are very excited to welcome Mustangs and staff to join guided tours and experience hands-on opportunities in the agriculture facilities. Students will be taught about real-world agriculture practices, animal care, and plant science.
“We’re excited to give others a first-hand look at the variety within our agriculture facilities and the hands-on opportunity they offer,” said LRHS agriculture teacher Sophia Jaramillo- Vasconez.

There are many facilities and livestock that will be toured. The beef barn with the steers and heifers, the swine barn with male and female pigs, the dairy facilities with more heifers, as well as the greenhouse, shade house, and community garden.
Jaramillo-Vasconez said, “These areas demonstrate both animal science and plant science in action.”
It is important that visitors wear comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, and dress according to the weather; the tours will be outside. This is a learning opportunity for visitors to better understand the importance of agriculture.
“It’s helpful to come with questions and an open mind, there's a lot to learn, and every part of the tour offers something unique.”
These tours will not only allow visitors to learn but will promote the agriculture and FFA programs on campus. The tours will teach the practicality and importance of basic agriculture knowledge. The tours will also show just a fraction of what can be learned in the FFA club and the agriculture class.
“They show how agriculture is more than farming—it’s science, technology, leadership, and sustainability. Tours help build appreciation for the program and may encourage more students to join,” said Jaramillo-Vasconez.
