(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Lakewood Ranch High School’s (LRHS’s) Lakewood Leaders and Key Clubs had a very successful annual canned food drive. Around 1500 donations were collected from LRHS this year.

The clubs put together and planned this year's food drive. They worked together to organize meetings, make signs, distribute donation boxes, and collect all donated items.

An organization called “Mayors Feed the Hungry” will collect the donation on Thursday, Nov. 20 and distribute them to local food banks in the community.

Students who chose to donate could bring in any cans or non-perishables to their first period classes. To help encourage students to donate, the class with the most donations will get a free Chick-Fil-A breakfast. This year's winner was math teacher Meghan Sugalski's first period class, with a total of 374 donations.

I think the lesson we should all take away from the food drive and continue to embody in all aspects of life is that it is better to serve than to be served. Life's not about what you get, but it's about what you can give to make the lives of others better.” said LRHS social studies teacher Kyle Elmendorf, adviser for Lakewood Leaders.
