(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- While Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) cheerleaders learn to perfect their sport, they also develop important life skills.
Cheerleading requires a variety of skills including teamwork, leadership, collaboration, integrity, and the ability to memorize a handful of material.
When working in stunt groups, LRHS cheerleaders must work together and communicate in order to make sure nobody gets hurt.
Sophomore Kaelyn Nelson said “When learning new stunts, everyone must pay close attention to each other and make sure we have clear communication so that we can keep the flyer safe and hit the stunt.”

Learning new material also requires cheerleaders to have good memories and pick up the material fast.
“At practice, we must learn new dances and cheers in a timely manner in order to make sure they are perfected by the game. This can sometimes mean going home and working very hard to practice them,” said sophomore Seraphina Brodsky.
The skills that they learn from cheer can help them to be more successful later in life and set up their future goals.
