Paul Jordan – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) The 12 teams that will play in this year's College Football Playoff were selected over the Dec. 6 - 7 weekend.

Due to the playoff format that started last season, there are four teams that have a bye and will automatically move into the second round.

These four teams are the one-seed Indiana University Hoosiers, the two-seed Ohio State Buckeyes, the three-seed Georgia Bulldogs, and the four-seed Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The first matchup sees the five-seed Oregon Ducks competing against the twelve-seed James Madison Dukes. The winner of this game will play the Red Raiders in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Jan. 1.

The next matchup has the six-seed Ole Miss Rebels playing the eleven-seed Tulane Green Wave. The winner of this game will play the Bulldogs in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.

The following matchup has the seven-seed Texas A&M Aggies playing the ten-seed Miami Hurricanes. The winner of this game will play the Buckeyes in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic on Dec. 31.

The final match of the first round sees the eight-seed Oklahoma Sooners playing the nine-seed Alabama Crimson Tide. The winner of this game will play the Hoosiers in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.

“It’s understandable that Miami gets in over Notre Dame, how are you going to get –5 rushing yards in the SEC Championship and still be considered a playoff team?” said LRHS junior Nick Darpino on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish being left out of the playoff to make room for Alabama.
