Cassidy Barnhardt- Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - November was Homelessness Awareness Month and now the holidays, often seen as a time of giving, are here.  Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) staff like Student Support Specialist Debra Shannon says it’s important to participate in various ways to provide for in-need students

Shannon said, “I work with Project Heart to facilitate snacks and bookbags for students in need.  Students also receive personal hygiene supplies, shoes and socks.”

The school district has programs to provide free or reduced-price lunches to students in need. There also was a food drive earlier last month, where canned foods and healthy meals were donated.

Shannon also said, “Students who qualify also benefit from Project Heart when graduation fees need to be met.  Additionally, I partner with private agencies (when available) to assist with prom dresses and clothing.”

To donate to your community, participate in food drives, clothes drives, or community service projects that actively aim towards providing and giving back.
