(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - The Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS)  Agriculture (Ag) Department hosted class tours for their fellow Mustangs this fall.  Throughout the tours Ag staff and students led 14 different classes through the barns and Ag facilities. Almost 350 students from non-Ag classes attended.

“It was an incredible turnout, and we were excited to share what our program has to offer with such a large and engaged audience,” said LRHS ag teacher Sophia Jaramillo-Vasconez.

Each tour lasted around 30 minutes, giving students time to interact with the animals and ask questions. These time frames kept a steady and smooth schedule.

Jaramillo-Vasconez said, “Many asked insightful questions, especially about the differences and similarities between market animals and breeding animals, which sparked some great discussions.”

Students had positive feedback and enjoyed the opportunity. They enjoyed the hands-on experience, allowing them to better understand the Ag program. Even the Mini Mustangs Pre-K program enjoyed the tours.

“Many attendees mentioned that they enjoyed the hands-on nature of the tour, and several even expressed interest in joining our agriculture program or signing up for classes next year,” said Jaramillo-Vasconez.

The ag department plans to repeat the tours in the future.

Jaramillo-Vasconez said, “They’re a fantastic way to connect with the wider student body and showcase the opportunities within our agriculture program.”
