(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)--The Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Silver Stars dance team hosted their first ever middle school clinic for students grades six through eight on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Students came from schools such as Haile Middle School, Dr. Mona Jain, Nolan, and Buffalo Creek.

Doors were open to those attending the clinic at 4:45 pm, and varsity members of the dance team assigned them numbers that they would wear throughout the clinic.

“We want these girls to feel included and get excited about what this team could bring them,” said sophomore Claire Freund.

At the start, senior Stars Elyse Maroney and Alexa Jaime led a warmup that consisted of stretches and workouts that got the dancers' muscles engaged.

After warmup, dancers met at one end of the dance room and showcased their skills going across the floor, led by senior Bella Juliano.

Prospective Silver Stars not only got to show off the skills they already know, but they also went home knowing a lot more than when they walked in.

Pom's technique is a big part of Silver Stars; future dance team members got to learn pom motions and the techniques associated with that.

They were taught to “pull their arms in front of them and really engage their back muscles,” said senior Maddie Hutchinson.

The evening ended with a jazz combo being taught by senior captain Maddie Medford to the song, Need Me, by Sienna Spiro.
